It is situated in a RSPBnature reserve that is home to rare birds, including puffins and choughs. You don’tneed to be a geologist to appreciate the rock formations here either. But don’tforget your binoculars!

Breakwater Country Park

From sheer cliffs to countryside, another outdooroption is the Breakwater Country Park. Built inthe quarry from which the granite was taken for HolyheadBreakwater – hence the name – the park is over 100 acres insize. Climb Holyhead Mountain, enjoy views fromthe highest point in Anglesey and come down the other side where you can have awell-earned cup of tea in the park cafe, whilst you soak up the tranquillity.

It is a very historic small town, with people only staying a night I guess due to ferries. Range of places to eat, but a little run down and closes early. Friendly where we went.

If you go walking on the mountain make sure you are prepared for a sudden arrival of mist. It took us by surprise at the highest point and we needed advice on the best way back down once we had lost sight of the coast.
