Enjoy simultaneous ocean and river views at Plaza Banderas. Step onboard the Cannon Ship Guanajuato, a naval ship museum with an impressive arsenal. Take a boat tour along the Jamapa River and pass through verdant mangrove forests. Marvel at the opulent residences of Little Venice Veracruz while cruising the El Estero canal. Visit Isla de Amor, where composer Agustín Lara is said to have begun his romance with actress Maria Félix.

Bask in year-round sunshine. Go Jet Skiing, scuba diving and snorkeling at the city’s beaches. Mocambo Beach is famous for seashore horseback rides and the Parque Acuatico Mocambo waterpark. North from here is Playón de Hornos, which offers kayak trips departing for Isla de Sacrificios and Cancuncito. Close to the city center are Antón Lizardo Beach and Santa Ana Beach.

Visit the Agustín Lara House Museum to learn about one of Mexico’s finest composers. Catch a taxi to Veracruz, explore Veracruz Harbor, visit San Juan de Ulúa Castle and see multicolored sea life at Veracruz Aquarium.

Fly to Veracruz International Airport, about 9 miles (15 kilometers) from Boca del Río. Select from the many hotels in the Zona Hotelera. After a day of sightseeing enjoy the traditional dishes of the Veracruz state. Be sure to try huachinango a la Veracruzana (red snapper cooked in spicy tomato sauce).
