Alex Beach
Picture-perfect Alex Beach is a superb spot to spend a blissful day soaking up the sun and playing in the sea and surf. Set up a picnic and umbrella, spread out a blanket and truly appreciate the laid-back, serene atmosphere of the Sunshine Coast.
This patrolled beach is a local gem. Pack a book, your surfboard or a fishing rod and relax all day while listening to the crashing of waves. Look back to the hinterland mountains and relax under the tropical Queensland sun.
Stroll along the beach at sunrise as the sky turns blue over the water or stay the whole day until the sun sets. Walk along the white sand to the rocky southern headland where you can look north to see the Maroochy River and Coolum. Back at the beach, frolic in the water and watch surfers as they catch waves. Alex Beach boasts one of the best surf spots on the coast. Hire a board from a local shop or sign up for surf lessons with an instructor.
The outdoor skate park, located by Alexandra Headland Surf Life Saving Club, is a great place for teens and young adults to socialise and have fun. At night the park is lit up, making it a great place to sit with friends and listen to the sounds of the ocean.
For a snack or meal, head to the surf club or to Alexandra Parade, which has cafés and alfresco restaurants. For shopping and entertainment, the nearby Sunshine Plaza has over 200 specialty stores, a cinema complex and tenpin bowling nearby. Stay for a night or a week, choosing from varied attractive accommodations.
Alex Beach is located on the Alexandra Headland, between Mooloolaba and Maroochydore. It is approximately 100 kilometres (60 miles) from Brisbane or an 80-minute drive. Nearby are the pretty town of Buderim and Mooloolah River National Park.
