Bang Lamung
Bang Lamung is a peaceful village community set back from the shores of the Bay of Bangkok in northern Pattaya. It’s a place to visit interesting temples and relax on beaches. Bang Lamung straddles Sukhumvit Road, a coastal highway that connects Bangkok with Trat, in east Thailand. Just a short drive from the village are some of Pattaya’s major attractions, including a vibrant floating market and elephant reserve.
Meander through the village’s web of streets to find shrines and temples. Among these are Chao Mae Uthong Shrine, Wat Bang Lamung and Wat Tha Kradan. Peak inside customary Thai dwellings and spot locals soaking up the sun in tree-lined gardens. Make the short walk to the village’s beach, an unspoiled stretch of golden sand that curves around the coastline. Arrive at dusk to watch picturesque sunsets over the Bay of Bangkok.
The village is less than a 30-minute drive from popular Pattaya attractions. Ride through the jungle atop an elephant at Pattaya Elephant Village. Watch elephant’s perform logging tricks, respond to commands and re-enact a battle. Glide along the canals of the Pattaya Floating Market and discover art galleries, fruit stalls, restaurants and souvenir vendors. Admire the traditional Thai architecture, watch cultural performances and sample authentic cuisine such as pad Thai (stir-fried rice noodles).
Don’t miss the chance to visit The Sanctuary of Truth (Prasat Satchatham), perched on a peninsula about a 20-minute drive from the village. Join a guided tour of this majestic wooden temple with an English-speaking guide. Marvel at the ornate carvings of Buddhist and Hindu deities, glimpse into craftsmen’s workshops and watch Thai dance displays.
