Amsterdam

A city rich in history and culture. Visit all year round and experience each season’s unique highlights and special atmosphere.

Amsterdam will enchant you as much with its beautiful historic cityscape, as with its vibrant and laid-back atmosphere. The city has earned its reputation as the Venice of the North due to its network of semi-circular canals spanned by hundreds of bridges. In fact it has more canals and bridges than Venice. Enjoy the fascinating museums and café culture during the day, and join the crowds in the many bars and clubs at night. You’ll always feel welcome in this multicultural capital, where anything goes.

Amsterdam’s compact city centre is best explored on foot, by bike or on public transport. The lack of parking and the narrow cobbled streets make it difficult to navigate by car. The waterways of the 17th century canal district offer a perfect way to explore the sights. A canal cruise is the perfect introduction to the city’s fascinating history and iconic waterfront architecture, as well as many monuments, including Anne Frank’s House. In fact, the Canal Ring has been listed as a World Heritage site.

Head to Dam Square in the centre of the city where you’ll find the beautiful old Royal Palace, as well as the stunning wax statues of Madame Tussauds. Amsterdam’s infamous Red Light District is just a short walk away, where the streets are lined with adult entertainment venues. For a more family-friendly experience, make your way to Nieumarkt, bustling square surrounded by cafés and restaurants.

Catch a tour of the Museum Quarter, just outside the Canal Ring and discover collections of Dutch Old Master paintings in the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum. Close by, the Vondelpark is a lovely open space, perfect for spending some time relaxing on the grass. If you are in this area at night, make your way over to the Leidesplein known for great live music and a busy nightlife.

The city’s many coffee shops are great places to hang out for a while enjoying the relaxed pace of life. Sit for a while and use the opportunity for a spot of people watching. If you’re in the mood for a nice cool beer, stop off in one of the city’s numerous bars where you can sample a range of delicious local beers. Beer connoisseurs should head to the old brewery to join theHeineken Experience. This attraction includes its own tasting bar.

Amsterdam is a city full of surprises at each turn. It has legendary nightlife and a party atmosphere as well as a rich cultural heritage and beautifully preserved architecture. This is the perfect mix, which makes it an appealing destination for old and young alike.
