Mandaluyong
Enjoy the diverse array of attractions in Mandaluyong, one of 17 cities and municipalities in Metro Manila. Although located away from the more famous attractions of Manila City and Quezon City, Mandaluyong is incredibly popular with locals. Experience a city loved for its chic shopping malls and diverse dining options.
There are two stories behind the city’s name, so you can choose which one you prefer. Some say it was named after the luyong tree, while others tell of a more romantic story. The tale goes that two lovers from enemy tribes, Manda and Luyong, eventually united their families through love and founded this city.
Most of the excitement of Mandaluyong happens around the region known as Ortigas Center. This gleaming business district is lined with skyscrapers and wide, tree-lined roads. Come here to browse in its popular shopping malls. The SM Megamall attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every week, promising bargains on every floor. The more upmarket Shangri-La Plaza, or the Shang, hosts stylish, high-end brands and is perfect for a day of splashing out on fashion.
Discover the Mandaluyong of old in the churches and statues that are scattered throughout the city. San Felipe Neri Church is the oldest Catholic church in the city and it played an important role in the 1896 revolution. Look for monuments to this conflict and to the Filipino hero José Rizal. Relax in Amado T. Reyes Park, where you can find statues hidden in the greenery.
Unwind in the leisure resort of Wack Wack Greenhills. This barangay, or district, promises hours of entertainment on a green and spacious golf course, making it a tranquil escape in an otherwise busy and built-up city.
The best time to visit Mandaluyong is during the city's extensive Christmas season, which starts at the beginning of November and doesn't end until Epiphany in February. Drive around the streets at night to take in the bright, festive lighting. Mandaluyong is located centrally in Metro Manila and can be easily accessed via the buses, trains and taxis that run here from Manila Airport.
