Punta Hermosa

This traditional beach town on Lima’s Pacific Ocean coastline is famous for its picturesque coves, sandy beaches, surfing and excellent fish restaurants.

Punta Hermosa is one of Peru’s most loved and traditional beach resorts. It features small coves with sandy and rocky beaches, sea conditions ideal for novice and experienced surfers, seafood restaurants and a lively nightlife scene.

The resort sits on the shores of the Pacific Ocean and is made up of five individual beaches. All have sun lounges and umbrellas for rent, seasonal lifeguards and superb views.

At the northern end of the town is the busy Playa El Silencio, a sweeping bay of golden sand with big waves that attract surfers. As you watch the board riding action, try a bowl of fresh ceviche, seafood marinated in citrus juices at one of the beachside food shacks. The coast stretches south to the attractive bay of Playa Señoritas before continuing to Playa Caballeros, both popular surf spots with waterfront bars.

At the heart of Punta Hermosa’s coastline is Playa Norte, where strong waves in winter turn a usually sandy beach into a rocky bay. Continue south and walk out along the breakwater to the edge of La Isla Punta Hermosa, a small rocky island. On your way back, stroll along the esplanade to Playa Negra, also known as Playa Central. Here, you will find many of the town’s hotels and guesthouses, surf schools, restaurants and nightlife.

There are lots of activities away from the beach. Visit the Centro Recreacional CAFAE-SE, a recreational center with swimming pools, slides, children’s play areas and soccer fields. Watch skateboarders perform tricks at the Skate Park Punta Hermosa.

Throughout the year Punta Hermosa hosts a range of cultural events. These range from international surf competitions to Reggae Fest, an open-air festival of reggae music that’s held every summer.

Punta Hermosa is just over a 1-hour drive south from Lima. Renting a car is the most convenient way to arrive and to travel between its beaches. Energetic types will enjoy the 1-hour walk between the two beaches at either end of the town.

With its easygoing beach ambiance and range of watersports, Punta Hermosa is a great vacation spot or daytrip destination from Lima.
