Doctor's Cave Beach

Kick back and relax on the fabulous white Jamaican sand of this beautiful beach.

Doctor’s Cave Beach is found along Montego Bay in the Caribbean Sea, just a short distance from the town centre. Enjoy all of the fun of the seaside with stunning aquamarine water and dazzling white sand. The strand used to be privately owned by a doctor, Alexander James McCatty, a Briton who was one of the colonising settlers here. He ran a local infirmary during the 1800s. Guests could gain entry to his beach through a cave at the time. Still in private hands to this day, there is a small charge for entry.Lie down and enjoy the opportunity to relax. You can rent a lounge chair and umbrella, and then order a drink or food, which are delivered to your chair. When you’d like to do something a little more active, head out into the gorgeous warm water, whose temperature remains comfortable throughout the year. The joys of tropical coral reefs can be enjoyed here too. Rent some snorkelling equipment and take a short boat trip out 100 metres from shore (don’t forget to leave a tip for the boat’s captain!). Here you can see the vibrant, multi-coloured marine life of this huge, biologically diverse habitat. Fascinating coral, parrot fish, turtles, stingrays and the occasional small shark or barracuda – these are just some of the wonders of the ocean to be seen. It’s a good idea to arrive early as, due to the high level of demand, it can be difficult to get a lounger and umbrella. Alternatively, there’s plenty of shade under the magnificent coconut palm trees along the edge of the beach. Showers and changing facilities are also available here.
