Baqueira Beret Ski Resort
You could spend weeks exploring the groomed runs of Baqueira Beret Ski Resort. The resort is spread over three areas, Baqueira, Beret and Bonaigua, covering more than 5.4 acres (2.2 hectares) of terrain with some of the best snow quality you will find along the Pyrenees. Take on the challenging slopes of the Black Safari, work your legs on the cross-country circuit and dine high up in the mountains.
The resort is set in the Spanish Pyrenees. It has long been a favorite of Spain’s royal family and with skiers of all experience levels. Extensive slopes are grouped into safaris, and they provide a wealth of choices for powder lovers.
If you are a novice, build up your skills at one of the beginners’ areas. One is situated at the foot of the central peak, in Baqueira 1800, and the biggest one is at the Beret area, with plenty space for those beginning in the snow sports world.
For more advanced skiers, there are the runs and trails of the Blue Safari. They include the Mirador Trail, which starts at the Mirador slope and swoops down through the Argulls valley. Push yourself even further with the slopes of the Red Safari. Meanwhile, expert skiers can check out the resort’s toughest slopes, which make up the Black Safari. If you are into cross-country skiing, tackle the 4.3-mile (7-kilometer) Nordic track.
There’s no need to worry about keeping very young children entertained. Lots of courses and activities are tailored to them. Tots can learn to stand up on two skis and enjoy the slopes in one of the special classes, and there are also several snow parks.
At night, the après-ski options are plenty. Take an aperitif and some tapas in a cozy bar, then enjoy a meal in a restaurant on the slopes. Find dining venues in each of the three skiing areas.
Baqueira Beret Ski Resort is in the Aran Valley in northeastern Spain. Fly to Barcelona and drive for 217.5 miles (350 kilometers) or choose the shorter 2-hour car journey from Toulouse in France. Stay in the resort’s hotels or apartments, all flanked by a spectacular mountainous backdrop.
