Josone Park

Dine at lakeside restaurants, wander amid landscaped gardens, spot varied birdlife and partake in recreational pursuits at this picturesque park.

Josone Park (Parque Josone) is a green oasis located toward the south of the Varadero peninsula. It’s a place to relax amid the natural confines of flourishing tropical vegetation inhabited by colorful wildlife. Find bars, restaurants, a boating lake and family-friendly activities. Josone Park covers around 22 acres (9 hectares) and is popular with everyone from artists to courting couples and families.

Step through the park’s large gateway to discover a collection of well-maintained lawns framed by tall palm trees. Admire the botanical flower displays such as brightly colored violets and huge climbing plants. Watch newlyweds pose for photographs and local girls have shots taken for their quinceañera (15th birthday) celebrations. Keep watch for ducks, macaw parrots, roosters and ostriches, among other birds.

Towards the park’s northern edge is a manmade lake. Glide across the tranquil water via rowboat and paddleboat. Alternatively, sit on the lake’s banks and enjoy a moment of peace and serenity.

Challenge your golfing ability at the miniature golf course. Go for a swim at the small open-air pool and tour the park onboard the toy train. Quench your thirst with a glass of sugar-cane juice at the kiosk and purchase Cuban handicrafts from the souvenir vendors.

There are four restaurants situated in the park, several of which have seating areas with views of the lake. Dine on delicious Creole and Italian fare. Spend an evening at a bar inspired by the illustrious rock band, The Beatles. Note the life-size statues of The Beatles, which guard the entrance, and attend free performances by well-known Cuban bands.

The park is no more than a 25-minute drive from Varadero’s hotels and guesthouses. Many hotels offer shuttle services to the resort’s major attractions. The 13-mile (21-kilometer) long Varadero Beach is just a 10-minute walk away. Here you can swim in the glorious Caribbean Sea and go kayaking, kitesurfing, snorkeling and windsurfing.

Josone Park is open daily, until midnight, and is free to enter. Fees are applicable for boat rentals, golf, the swimming pool and toy train.
