Upmarket lodge, not sure if it was worth the cost
An upmarket lodge, which is reflected in the cost. They provide continental breakfast (cooked breakfast was extra cost). Room was large, clean and comfy. Parking secure. Continental breakfast was underwhelming. Wifi didnt work in our room. Felt it was a little impersonal

Grounds were lovely Room was poor. We had midges in the room (I hope they were midges), long hairs all over the couch (not ours). The safe wasn’t working, the tv was broke, no bath mat, half a roll of toilet tissue. Entry to your room is via old fashioned locks with long keys, starting at 5 in the morning, all we could hear was people opening and closing their doors and the jangling of keys.

They couldn’t have made us feel more welcome! A real oasis! So clean, private and relaxing! We were welcomed like family and all staff were so friendly! Large accommodation couldn’t have asked for more! This place is on our list to return to next time!! E can not recommend more highly

Excellent place to stay
A superb place to stay - large rooms/bathroom, great veranda overlooking well tendered and tranquil garden. Lovely garden swimming pool with sun loungers and lawn. Staff exellent and looked after us very well - even had menu's from local restaurants and staff happy to reserve a table. Great breafast served on the veranda. Highly recommend for a stay in town.

One night stop on Route 62
Beautiful lodge with beautifully tended gardens. Not far from the fantastic Cango caves - a ‘must see’. Didn’t try the pool in the garden! Reminded us so much of a lovely safari lodge we stayed in on Masai Mara in Kenya. Didn’t use the shower on our one night stay- old style over bath with an ‘enclosure’ felt a bit tricky to get in or out of the bath. Lots of restaurants nearby - We fancied something relaxed so had a basket meal and a beer at the Route 62 diner just down the road. Complimentary continental breakfast was ample for us, but cooked was available. Would stay there again.

Pretty lodge
We only had a one night stay here so it was a quick visit, it exceeded our expectations, it is a very pretty place with well kept gardens and our room was very modern. The hotel doesn’t do evening meals but will recommend a restaurant nearby and book it for you they also booked the Congo caves for us which is a twenty minute drive and worth doing the staff were very helpful. Breakfast is just continental but you can pay a small fee to have cooked, there was plenty to choose from.

We had a relaxing stay here. If you're amidst a Garden Route trip, Outdshroon is definitely a must-visit town and Hlangana Lodge is a perfect spot to crash in. The check-in was pretty smooth and our honeymoon suite was perfectly nestled right in the heart of the property. Cape Karoo Restaurant is around the corner where the woodfired pizza was amazingly delicious and Cango Wild Ranch is also down the road where you can find a lot of fun activities and encounters with the wild animals.

We booked this property for some rest and relaxation and I was under the impression that it was in the countryside but it is on the main road out of Oudtshoorn. However, the grounds are beautiful and we spent a delightful 4 day break sitting around the pool and enjoying the grounds. The staff were superb and went the extra mile to ensure our stay was enjoyable. The pool filter was not working properly when we arrived but workman arrived the next morning and solved the problem. The staff were extremely diligent in ensuring that everything was high quality. The rooms are well furnished, spacious and spotless. Our room overlooked the main garden and we loved sitting out on our terrace each night with a glass of wine. There is a minibar in the room and a bar at reception. The lodge advised on restaurants and attractions nearby. We ate at Jemima’s and Nostalgic which were both excellent. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful and a combination of cooked to order and buffet. Thank you to all the staff for making our stay so wonderful.

Our stay at Hlangana Lodge was fantastic. The rooms were clean and the lodge offers a variety of places to relax outside your room including a beautiful pool. You’ll feel safe at this property with it’s high gates and overnight security guard. There are some friendly cats living on the property, who are very welcoming. Breakfast was fine. My only complaint is that I was unable to access the wifi from my room.

Nice staff but a far cry from luxury
The photos and description grossly exaggerate this hotel. To say it's 'One of the finest small luxury hotels in South Africa' is very misleading. The photo of the pool make it look large, but it's no larger than that you'd find in an average private home. Furthermore, it's overhung by tree branches and so is constantly full of leaves and berries making it very unwelcoming. There aren't many sun loungers which meant most guests on our first day when the hotel was full were lying on their towels on the grass! There are some stone figurines around the edges which were all broken. We stayed in one of the top deluxe rooms which was quite spacious but the entire front façade is made of glass affording no privacy without totally closing the curtains. The bathroom had no privacy into the shower area. There was no bath. The 'champagne' breakfast is sweet, sparkling red and there is no restaurant food apart from a bar cheese/meat platter at lunchtime.and the walk to the closest restaurants is about 20/30 minutes We paid to use the bikes but they are designed for flat land as they have no brakes or gears and it is not flat land. This hotel's main redeeming feature was its pleasant, helpful staff.

Lovely Lodge
Well appointed large family rooms facing a beautiful garden and pool . Lodge is located in a tranquil area on the outskirt of Oudtshoorn but close enought to restaurants (by car). Property is very secure. The manager and staff are lovely and very helpful. Good base to visit the area.

Wonderful only sorry we were not there for longer. Amazing breakfast and good coffee not weak like had in precious B&B. The gardens are beautiful and very restful by the pool with clean towels provided. A welcome drink on arrival and receptionist was so helpful with restaurant information shuttle bus etc. 5 stars all the way.

Great lodge near Cango Caves
Very nice lodge 30km from Cango Caves. Grounds were beautiful. Beds very comfortable. Everything was very clean. Staff was friendly. Breakfast was great. Restaurants in town offered a free shuttle to and from dinner.

Nice lodge, lovely grounds
We stayed for only one night and were happy with the large rooms and outdoor spaces. The staff were very helpful on arrival to confirm our meerkat adventure booking. There was a nice breakfast buffet with several cooked to order options.

I felt like the ugly stepsister of Cinderella!
I felt like the ugly stepsister of Cinderella when I saw the room. I have previously stayed at the Hlangana about 10 years ago and it was exceptional. This time we got a very small unattractive room at the back of the building. The room was fitted with a double bed with a very thin inner duvet, very small bathroom with a broken shower head which made showering a big challenge and nearly impossible. It is a four star establishment but this room apart of having only a bathroom with a shower and no bathtub will surprise me it will be rated a three star room. Our view from our bedroom was onto a washing line. The coffee facilities, which we only discovered before we checked out the next day was stationed in the clothing cupboard and we therefor never saw it. There was a problem with the water which we were made aware of on checking in but I would of thought they could of put bottled mineral water out in our room for drinking purposes. The breakfast was exceptional though although you could only have breakfast until 9h00 am in the morning as oppose to 10h00 am. I don't think I will want to stay there again.

The place is SO SMALL, yes it was a budget room but for R1300 a night- its not a budget price- with the smallest bathroom I have ever seen- food is good but room is really not great- even the kettle is in the cupboard- there is no plug by the table to boil it - and no space on the tv table where the plug is - so must you boil it on the floor? again- just really small for that amount of money
