Savill Garden

Savill Garden featuring interior views
Stroll through these ornamental gardens placed within a pleasant green space to see some of the finest landscaping in the entire country.

Savill Garden is one of England’s greatest treasures due to its rich history and beautifully designed shrubs, flowers and grasses. Smell the wonderful aroma of the rose garden, sit next to the pond on a sunny day, or visit in winter to appreciate the seasonal plants that bring color no matter the weather.

Set within Windsor Great Park, Savill Garden has a royal history. It belongs to the Crown Estate, essentially the estate of the British monarchs, and was designed to show off the best of British landscaping and natural beauty. It dates back to the 1930s, when the garden was created by Sir Eric Savill. See the plaque dedicated to Queen Elizabeth II, who opened the Rose Garden in 2010.

If you have come to look for the royal influences on the gardens, wander through the exhibits to see the trees planted by the Royal Family. Head to the Queen Elizabeth Temperate House to find plants that thrive in climate-controlled areas.

Every season brings something new to Savill Garden. See the plant hybrids that experts have created and visit the seasonal displays that are specifically planted to thrive at different times of year. Stand at the end of the elevated walkway in the rose garden to look out over the various shades of beautiful roses.

When you have finished touring the garden, head to the Savill Garden Kitchen to enjoy a menu of salads, British classic dishes and desserts. On a nice day, bring a picnic and enjoy it in the outdoors at one of the designated picnic areas. Before you leave, tour the garden gift store for seeds and gardening tools to take home.

Take a train to Windsor Central Station and then get a taxi to Savill Garden, or drive and park in the dedicated parking lot. Parking is free if you buy entry to the garden. Savill Garden is open daily year round, though opening hours in the winter are shorter than in the summer.
