About Pangkor Island

On the west coast of peninsular Malaysia, where the beaches are untouched and the sea clear-blue is the small island of Pangkor. A previous refuge for fishermen and pirates, today the eight kilometre island is a popular beach destination that has kept most of its old town charm, from its fishing villages to its lovely temples.

Don’t Miss

There is something for everyone on Pangkor Island, with culture, history and natural scenery at every turn. Most visitors like to stay at least a week to really appreciate this quaint island.

The beaches are the main draw thanks to their white sand and clear water, with Pasir Bogak being the most popular. Other beaches that are a must are Coral Bay, Teluk Nipah and the private Teluk Belanga.

If you love culture visit these: the Hingu Kali Amman Temple, the ancient styled Fu Ling Kong temple and the historical Kota Belanda (Dutch Fort). It is also worthwhile strolling around the island’s fishing villages and Pangkor Town, and visiting the 4.3-metre high Tiger Rock. If you love the outdoors try these: trekking at Titi Gantung, hornbill feeding, snorkelling off of Pasir Bogak or cycling around the island.

Restaurants and Bars

Eating and drinking is quite pleasurable on Pangkor Island because of the large amount of fresh seafood everywhere. Pangkor Town has much to choose from, from local food stalls to sit-down Chinese restaurants. Some of the best food is offered at the upmarket resorts, while simple meals can always be enjoyed along the beachfronts. Chinese coffee shops are a must, with the main town being the best place to indulge in this.

Shopping

There is not a whole lot of shopping to be had on Pangkor Island, though it is always possible to purchase souvenirs and dried seafood in shops along Pangkor Town’s main street.
