Pleasant, sprawling hotel near the town centre. Our room had problems when we arrived. It was cold, mainly because the window did not close properly, and there was no obvious heating control. Also the TV would not turn on. The staff were prompt in sending an engineer. He could not get the window properly closed, but sorted the thermostat control on the radiator, which solved the room temperature problem. He also explained a work-around to get the TV to come on. He explained that the hotel had recently come under new management and all the rooms were in process of being renovated.

Expedia site for this hotel showed lift with 100cm door. On checking in we were told there was no lift which caused great inconvenience for one of our party who found great difficulty in negotiating stairs particularly from first to second floor. There was no outer hand rail and this section was very steep. The restaurant was also closed on Sunday evening and this should also have been made known to us.

Lovely spacious room. Think we must have had an upgrade as it was more than just a standard double room. Bed was huge and very comfy. Had a sofa in the room too. Breakfast was lovely and amazing for only £4 each! Overall thought it was really good value for money. Hotel has lots of character, free parking (through a very narrow opening) and about half the price of nearby Premier inn and a much nicer stay. I expect the prices will go up soon though once everyone hears it’s back open again.

I've stayed in this hotel before, but it seems to have had a management change (no longer Mercure). I reported a few issues: such as there being no milk in the room, the shower dispensers being empty and the wifi not working. Also, the cleaning staff entered the room before I'd checked out. I believe all of these are easily fixable with staff training. I hope to return.
