Kitsilano Beach

Kitsilano Beach
Swim in the longest pool in the country at this sandy beach with an elegant boulevard, restaurants and a watersports center.

On the edge of English Bay, Kitsilano Beach is one of Vancouver’s most popular stretches of sand. The city’s long Seawall runs along this beach, providing excellent views of the water. Enjoy a range of culinary treats at one of the restaurants that have made “Kits” one of the most popular entertainment areas in the city.

Marvel at the sheer size of the salt-water Kitsilano Pool, which is heated. With a length of 450 feet (137 meters) and three waterslides, this pool is popular with families and attracts people from across the city. Rent a swimming lane for your own private party or sign up for scuba diving classes in the huge pool. Relax at the adjacent café while people-watching.

Cycle or walk along the Seawall on the Seasside Greenway, which has a total length of 17 miles (28 kilometers). The long boulevard, which was built in 1917, contains many benches and patches of grass that make for ideal picnic areas. Admire the spectacular view across Stanley Park and English Bay.

Let the kids run around in the playground on the northern side of the beach. Join locals for a game on the tennis, volleyball and basketball courts or take part in group yoga sessions at various times throughout the day. Many water activities, such as paddleboarding, kayaking and wind sailing, are popular here. Classes are offered at Vancouver Water Adventures, near the playground, where you can also rent equipment.

Build sand castles, play Frisbee and comb for treasures with your kids on Kitsilano’s sandy shore. Work on your tan on a warm summer day before cooling off in the sea.

Many restaurants and shops face the bay. Choose between a range of cuisines and budgets as you walk along the waterfront. Afterwards, sip on a cocktail while you enjoy the view of the water and mountains.

Lifeguards patrol the area daily from late May to early September. There is a fee to enter the Kitsilano Pool, which only opens in summer.

Kitsilano Beach runs parallel to Cornwall Avenue, immediately west of Downtown Vancouver. Drive west for 2 miles (3.2 kilometers) from the city center to get there or take the bus to any of Kitsilano’s bus stops. Nearby attractions include the Museum of Vancouver, Vanier Park and Sunset Beach Park. Parking is available, for a fee, in the lot adjacent to the beach.
