Home to more than 5000 birds, Jurong Bird Park at the base of Jurong Hill is just a 30-minute drive from the city but feels a world away, thanks to its tranquil atmosphere. Despite being one of the island's most popular attractions, it never feels crowded thanks to its size. And there's plenty to see, with the 400 species of birds spread out in habitats that mirror their natural environments.
South America’s lush diversity is on vibrant display at Jungle Jewels, while the 30-metre high waterfall at African Waterfall Aviary, the world’s largest walk-in aviary, will transport you to another place. See the birds that come from Southeast Asia and their own tropical aviary, and don't miss the chance to meet Lory Loft’s rainbow-coloured residents from Australia.
One of the highlights is the fascinating bird shows which have entertained generations of visitors. There are three shows spread throughout the day, each provides an insight into the park's residents. The Kings of the Skies show features soaring sea eagles, hawks and falcons, while the very popular High Flyers Show has an exciting line-up of the park's best-loved bird stars who show off their speed and agility. The third show is the amusing Lunch with Parrots where you can have lunch alongside the parrot families that live here. You can also get up close with the birds at the feeding sessions that are held throughout the day.
The park opened in 1971 and conservation has long been key. Last year the Breeding & Research Centre opened to the public for the first time and gives visitors a behind-the-scenes look into how they care for eggs and chicks that are endangered or have been abandoned. The park is home to 29 threatened species of bird.
Jurong Bird Park can be reached by car, and there is ample parking. You can also reach the park easily from the Boon Lay MRT station with a connecting bus. The park is open daily from 8.30 am to 6 pm.
