Even though there's a lot of good reviews, I guess I went I with low expectations and lots of fears, but this hotel was a great surprise! It's was an easy location, was surprisingly quiet (although we were on the 31st floor), and it was bigger, cleaner, and nicer than I thought it would be. Super happy!
We returned from a 5-night stay at Hotel Mela last Wednesday - the hotel is great for many reasons (friendly/helpful staff, location just 5-minute walk from Times Square, modern/comfortable rooms with good amenities). Added to this, we had mentioned pre-arrival that we were coming to New York for a couple of special birthdays - when we got to our rooms we were greeted with a small gift/snack, which was a really nice touch.
We are already planning our return trip to NYC in a year or two, we will certainly look to stay at Hotel Mela again :-)
Just stayed here with 5 other ladies for 5days and the location of the hotel is ideal, we loved the rooms they were very comfy with everything you need, a coffee machine is provided on request at no charge, the staff were all very helpful, the concierge was very helpful, Kevin, he will book shows and helicopter rides etc for you and told us how to use the subway etc lots of advice should you ask him. The bar drinks are a little expensive so we tended to drink in other bars.
A great find, fully equipped room , with kitchenette, ideal for longer stays and families. Price great value for the area, I had a renovated room, a little compact but this is New York after all. Location is ideal as a base to see NY.
"I wondered if I had paid too little and they knew "
I stayed in five hotels in my trip. This place is nice, well located, but the staff was consistently unwelcoming. I wondered if I had paid too little and they knew about it. Made me feel like second class guest.

Decent hotel in a great location. Just a handful of blocks to Central Park or Times Square. Located right next to multiple subway lines makes it very easy to get around. I would definitely stay here again.
The brightest lights of this big city are found in the Broadway - Times Square neighborhood. Experience live entertainment, such as musicals and plays, or tour Rockefeller Center. The iconic St. Patrick's Cathedral graces the entire block of Fifth and 50th and welcomes more than 5 million visitors each year. This thriving area filled with pedestrians also hosts NBC, ABC, MTV, and NASDAQ.
