The problem I had/have is how the place is advertised on both Expedia and its own official site. Take extra special care when booking your room. Unlike every other holiday I've booked where rooms are styled in very much the same way, each room can be totally different.
Before I go in to a sob story I have my hands up, this was my mistake which is why I paid the two night penalty having stayed at the resort for just under an hour.
At first, and second, glance I made the fatal error of assuming a two bedroom, two story residence was the wonderful picture they have plastered everywhere. The classic Thai style duplex pool villa. As it turned out when we got there, they put us in an apartment block resembling that of a typical City break rather than a paradise island. There is not one external photo of this building on either site.
The General Manager understood our concerns and kindly offered to move us to what we did see in the picture but due to the Chinese New Year it was very busy and it was their last room which smelt of heavy smoke. Indeed, this is not the hotel's fault and both rooms were very well equipped.
My only gripe was that if we took that room, the people who had originally booked it would have been put in our previously allocated room. Just made me wonder if that was what happened to us. Its that kind of shady dealing that drove me away from the Financial Sector. Completely legal but borderline immoral, and designed for profit from honest hard working fol
This was our first time at the Amora Beach Resort, as we wanted somewhere where we could have time out after a hectic year, and we loved it. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a Deluxe Pool room which was great. All staff were friendly and made us feel very welcome. The swimming pool was huge and was kept spotlessly clean, also the beach was clean and the both the sea and the pool waters were warm. There were plenty of restuarants nearby and the one that we went to most was the Sugar Cane - lovely food, and not expensive. Even the food at the hotel was not expensive.
We will definitely go back to Amora next year as we were simply spoilt,

My son's mouth was wide open when he saw the room! He was very pleased with it. I had booked a 2 bed pool villa.
The room was big and spacious with our own pool and a view of the sea. Perfect for some family R&R.
The one and only restaurant was ok, not really authentic but the service from the staff were really attentive.
The only downside of the resort is that it's far away from any shops, we needed to get a few snacks for the children and my husband rode on a bike provided from the resort...it took him 30 minutes.
I would highly recommend the hotel if you are after some quiet R&R but if you need something with a bit more action and buzz I would recommend staying closer to Patong.

Great location and facilities. Beach is beautiful and a short walk to restaurants, shops and bars. My children loved the pools. Only negative is that the staff were so unfriendly and seemed sick of children or any request we might make. Definitely not my usual experience of Thailand where everyone is so friendly.
