Rekindle romance in Venice - Romance Travel News

Venice is known as one of the most romantic cities in the world, and for good reason. As an ideal location for honeymoon travel or even just romantic getaways, Venice has countless attractions for couples to enjoy.

St. Mark's Square
The place that acted as the city center for centuries is also regarded as one of the most beautiful squares in the world. Dating back to the 9th century, it is the only one in Venice to be designated as a true "piazza." The historical nature of the site means that it is home to several important buildings.

Perhaps the most magnificent is St. Mark's Basilica. Commissioned in 1071, the church and its separate bell tower are famous for their art and architecture. The square is dominated by marble and stone work, and it is a must-see spot for all tourists in Venice.

Doge Palace
Also located around St. Mark's Square is the Doge Palace. The building served as the seat of the Venetian government for centuries. Detailed carvings, sculptures and painting depict the history of Venice and its beliefs.

Receiving constant care and renovations has meant that the palace stands today in very good condition. The displayed artwork is pristine, and many rooms that were once the private lodgings of Venetian rulers are now open to the public.

Grand Canal
Snaking through Venice is the Grand Canal, the main waterway that has helped made this city a world destination. Many smaller canals connect to the Grand Canal during its 3 kilometer stretch and together they all serve as a primary form of Venetian transportation.

Lined with palaces, churches and other public buildings, the Grand Canal can be the centerpiece of any trip to Venice. Many different architectural styles are featured along the route and other Venetian attractions are easily spotted alongside its waters.

Venice holidays are not complete without a gondola ride down the canal. Unfortunately they can be expensive, so it is important to make the most of the experience. Push it back toward the end of the trip in order to know which section of the city will have the best personalized ride. Gondoliers will take suggestions on certain buildings or areas to pass by during the 40-minute journey.

As the perfect romantic destination, Venice offers travelers a city filled with rich history and beautiful attractions. Consider taking a trip to see all that this wonderful destination has to explore.
