Indians looking to take their lavish weddings abroad should consider checking out Cyprus. It is not only a beautiful location for couples to tie the knot, but an online travel website has named the island as the Top Honeymoon Destination of 2010.
More than 1,000 newlyweds were surveyed, with most respondents choosing the Cyprus island of Paphos as an ideal locale for post-wedding travels. While the island offers gorgeous views and majestic scenery, it is also quite inexpensive, which has been a major factor in attracting tourists in the destination's recent past.
According to a statement by Ian Raine of the travel website that surveyed its readers, typical honeymoon destinations like Paris and Venice were largely outnumbered by tropical locations.
Other popular spots for romantic getaways that readers chose include the Dominican Republic, Cape Verde and New York City.
"Cyprus is often credited for having the longest summer in Europe, which gives travellers the chance to experience great weather all year-round," Rain said. "It's also known as the 'island of love' because it is named as the home of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love."
