In the sixth annual Museum Day, Indians spending their family vacation in the United States will have free access to more than 1,400 institutions on September 25.
Introduced by the Smithsonian Magazine, its museum counterparts in Washington, D.C., already offer complimentary admission to its 19 properties. The event intends to popularize lesser known museums with a day of free entry in the Smithsonian spirit.
Because of smaller budgets, advertising is limited and the museums are often overlooked by tourists. Museum Day brings acknowledgement to hundreds of institutions and gives travelers a new, interesting activity that they may not have previously thought of.
Free tickets can be downloaded from the Smithsonian Magazine's website, and allow access to some of America's best historical, scientific, children-centered museums and more.
Participating venues range from oddly specific to general interests, such as the American Clock and Watch Museum, the World Golf Hall of Fame, New England Civil War Museum and the Herschelle Carrousel Factory Museum.
Many locations across the country will be holding events related to the weekend celebration including special openings of new art exhibits and installations.
