Marriott Hotels has properties throughout the world, with more than 3,700 accommodations in roughly 70 countries, including France, Jordan, India, China and Australia. Sri Lanka will soon join the ranks of other destinations with Marriott hotels as the construction for the new facility in underway, adding to the offerings on the island for premiere hotel stays.

Marriott Hotels has properties throughout the world, with more than 3,700 accommodations in roughly 70 countries, including France, Jordan, India, China and Australia. Sri Lanka will soon join the ranks of other destinations with Marriott hotels as the construction for the new facility in underway, adding to the offerings on the island for premiere hotel stays.

Called the Weligama Bay Marriott Resort, the property will have about 200 rooms and be 11 stories tall, providing luxurious amenities and easy access to nearby beaches and attractions.

"Marriott is delighted to be extending its portfolio and opening a world-class hotel in Sri Lanka," said Simon Cooper, president and managing director at the Marriott/Asia Pacific branch. "Sri Lanka is a destination that has great potential and opportunity and we hope to capitalise on that and establish a strong presence in the country. We are confident that the reputation of Marriott Hotels and Resorts and the power of Marriott Rewards, our loyalty programme, will create great interest from both local and international travellers and be successful in promoting the beautiful area of Weligama Bay, as well as the country itself as this is our first hotel here."
