A Rajasthan tour company which supports local non-profit organizations has made it to the final 10 in this year's United Nations NGO Positive Peace Awards.
Relief Riders International (RRI) join other finalists like Hallmark, Coors Central Beverages and Honeywell for their efforts towards making a difference in the world. RRI is an adventure travel company which organizes relief missions to the Thar Desert.
Volunteers for these missions head to desert communities on Marwari horses with medical professionals. It combines site-seeing with humanitarian aid, as the travels to Rajasthan offer views of wild animal life, guided visits to ancient landmarks and the chance to participate in cultural events.
Relief Riders also offers a way for Indians to help those in need with its Give a Goat program. For INR 3475 (USD $75), the animal will provide villagers with milk and cheese and help children combat malnutrition.
“Each goat we deliver can produce enough food to feed a family," RRI founder Alexander Souri told eTurboNews. " It’s very humbling to see how gratefully these gifts of sustenance are received."
