Indians do not have to leave the country to enjoy a vacation, as the Palace on Wheels offers a ride in the lap of luxury through their own land.
The train recently renovated its cars to offer the best in luxury travel. With new amenities like a Royal Spa car and updated, opulent decor, this vacation is a nice option for Indians who want to explore their native country.
Riding overnight, the train departs from New Delhi and makes stops in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Ranthambore and Agra. Tourists can explore the states' rich histories and culture, visit the royal palaces and travel via elephant, camel, boat or safari.
With a 104-passenger capacity, the train has 14 carriages with four en-suite rooms, as well as a small gym, beauty salon, bar and two upscale restaurants serving Rajasthani, Chinese and Continental cuisine.
"Only heaven can be equated with Palace on Wheels," said Lalit Pawar of the Indian Tourism Development Corporation. He also regards the tour as a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Train rides are offered each Wednesday from now through April.
