pillows were too hard
The hotel was very nice and quaint, and perfect for what we needed for one night before heading north to our beach rental. Close to the airport, some parking around the hotel, easy to access... but the room wasnt as comfortable as I expected. It was rather small, and the bathroom was awkwardly placed. The pillows were terrible! I know this is a preference thing, but I like my pillows soft and fluffy. These ones were hard and flat... not very nice. Also, the lighting was bizarre and took us a little while how to figure out how to turn the bedside lamps on. For one night, it was fine - but I wouldnt want to stay any longer.

A jewel in central San Diego
I was very pleased with the Sofia. I was in town for a conference, but ended up in the room for a full day due to a stomach bug. That is when I came to appreciate the quiet comfort of the room. Although smaller than some, it was perfect size for me as one person. The one downside was that they did not appear to have room service for food. However, there were plenty of options for delivery from local restaurants (I found them online). The location is within easy walking distance of the harbor, the convention center, the Gaslight district, and more. Cabs, trolleys, and buses are also convenient. My only slight disappointment was the restaurant downstairs (Currant) that seemed to be somewhat lackasdaisical about service (except for the gentleman who filled glasses and served at breakfast, who was very attentive). All in all, I would certainly stay at, and recommend, the Sofia again when in San Diego!

Downtown San Diego
An older hotel right next to the Greyhound terminal. You might expect such a location to imply a trashy hotel, but definitely not the case here. Pleasant room about 5 blocks from convention center. If only the in-room internet had worked...
