Check out could have been better only one person working who was dealing with long phone call, this caused a queue waiting to check out. Solution, more safe at desk or on the phone until the 10am checkout deadline.

We left both booked rooms within an hour of arrival. They were dirty, smelly and in dire need of refurbishing. The hotel smells like a badly run nursing home. Furniture old, dirty and stained. We will be seeking full refunds. Dirty net curtain, masquerading as a four poster bed canopy, obliterated tv view from bed. Couldn’t book a meal on arrival. Couldn’t book in for breakfast between 8.25am and 10am. 3 star food hygiene rating - sticker hidden behind a plant. Dirty cups. Old, yellowed kettle. Bathrooms and room woodwork chipped and grubby. The smell throughout the rooms and hotel was stale and sickening. Old and dirty blankets in wardrobe. I thank the reception staff for trying their best but the place needs a major refit.

The property is outdated, which is fine, however, it was NOT clean. Our room was so smelly and hot, the mattress was SO uncomfortable. We had booked for two nights, but left early, without a refund...it was NOT worth staying another night in this place. We booked a last minute room at the Wooly Sheep pub on the high street, which was delightful!

Having paid for the upgraded canal side room, a little disappointing, to find internal windows dirty and smeared, and bedroom furniture dated and tired, cracked vanity unit in bathroom, drawer knobs loose and falling off. Also not enough sockets, had to unplug fridge or lamp to plug kettle in. Christmas lunch @ £140 for two very poor and disappointing would only give a generous 5 0ut of 10 for quality and service.
