Pictures are very misleading-not impressed!

Posted 17-Feb-2014
Pros: Not much!
Cons: Cheaper prices! Not worth the price.
Cost way too much for what we got! Paid $50 for an amazing room at the MGM Grand...lol Expected more. Rooms are teeny tiny. Online the pictures make it look more beautiful on the outside and bigger on the inside. Nothing nicer than a Motel 6, but paid twice as much, if not more! FYI: Parking is additional $15. Oh and, no flowers are featured inside room as pictured on the online website. Don't believe they had a pool or hot tub either? Plus- It was located close to all downtown clubs, restaurants and stores & Seaport Village.

Not Best Western Quality

Posted 05-Feb-2014
Pros: Fresh eggs in the breakfast area.
Cons: Wrecking ball. Start over.
Location: It is set n the heart of the downtown office building area. I was able to walk four blocks to a restaurant, but only two to choose from.
Best Western has raised their reputation over the last 5 years from the Motel 6 level to the Holiday Inn Express level. Before they did this, I wouldn't have consider them. This property is not only the Motel 6 type, but 50 year old Motel 6. The room was TINY. The bathroom was a 4' X 4" square with an old fashioned round toilet, sink, and shower crammed in it. No counter room for my shaving kit, and the door didn't quite open all the way. The night stand wasn't big enough for the phone, clock, and the TV remote. About the only good thing I can say is that the air conditioner worked. Oh, the tiny breakfast area (a converted hotel room) did have fresh eggs.

I will stay here again.

The location was perfect, we stayed 6 nights and the cleaning lady changed the sheets many times and the place was very clean. The breakfast area was swell stocked and had a good variety of food. The only down side is that the area is a little noisy but it is close to the gas lamp disctrict. My daughter lives across the street in an apartment and her place is just as noisy.

small hotel and fab staff

Posted 26-Nov-2013
Pros: brilliant staff, good location and great breakfast.
Cons: the smell of the cleaning products!
Location: very close to the gas lamp quarter.
We stayed at the best western cabrillo inn for 3 nights and had a wonderful time. It's close to the gaslamp quarter and we were able to walk to balboa park (about 25 mins). The hotel itself was nice, clean and did a great breakfast! You could eat outside which was nice too. There was an unusual smell in the room - a little like bleach so we assumed this was there cleaning product and it didn't bother us too much. We spoke to one really helpful staff member who not only gave us tips on how to get around san diego and what to see there but also the other areas of america we planned to visit including san francisco!

Close to Gaslamp and Seawall

Posted 12-Nov-2013
Pros: We enjoyed the proximity to the ocean and the zoo. It was close to public transportation which kept our costs down.
Location: It was within walking distance of the Gaslamp District and the Seawall. The Midway Museum was good and we were able to go to La Jolla easily.
We had 3 days in San Diego before heading home. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The room we were in (225 I think) seemed quite small and supposedly could hold 4 people, but I do not think you would be able to change your mind in there if it was at maximum occupancy. The breakfast was good, with a selection of fruit, eggs, waffles, bacon etc. The rooms were clean and the bed was comfortable. The shower in the room next door was very loud and woke us up, but all in all it was a good place to stay for our needs. The town car rate to the airport was $12.00 (slightly cheaper than a cab).

Gem within walking distance of the Gaslamp Quarter

Posted 27-Oct-2013
Pros: Offers parking for hotel residents at a reasonable rate, but be sure to arrive early enough to get a parking spot.
Cons: The floor was a little dusty and could have used some cleaning.
This is a little gem of a hotel in downdown San Diego. I liked the way the room was decorated in pastel colors, with hardwood floors, and decorative tiles in the bathroom. We particularly enjoyed the rooftop terrace at night. It's a nice place to have a glass of wine and ponder the San Diego skyline in the moonlight. Carlos at the reception was especially helpful. He told us where to drive to get the best view of the sunset on the ocean shore. As a former tour guide, he was able to provide us with many good tips for what to see and do. We drove to Balboa Park and enjoyed part of a free, outdoor organ concert and visited an art museum. We walked to the Gaslamp Quarter for dinner, and especially liked the Ghirardelli candy store, where we picked up some pumpkin spice chocolate for our friends back home. One night, we drove to Little Italy for dinner, which was also very nice.

Clean & Comfortable

Posted 19-Oct-2013
Pros: Clean! It's obvious the owners take care of the property. Nice little table and chairs outside the room. Comfortable beds with crisp, clean linens.
Cons: The plants outside were nice, but some looked a little sad and dying. Didn't give us a great impression when we first drove up. It's a noisy area.
Location: Downtown - kinda noisy, but close to a lot: the harbor, seaport village, the Midway, Balboa park, Old Town, Gaslamp district.
Super clean and comfortable room. We only stayed for one night, but we would stay there again. Less corporate hotel and more of a locally owned feel. Decent breakfast with both cold and hot items. Rooms were not spacious, but just enough room, nicely finished, and again, very clean.
