Same friendly reception and service that we know… Same beautiful haven, that we love… We feel that a refresh of the interior and decor and art - will be a very good thing to do. Ask yourself what has changed in the hotel, in the last 3 years? Our answer is, nothing. Refresh the colours, refresh the deployment of the artworks

Beautiful, high security boutique hotel.
This was a shot stop over and I wish I could have stayed longer. Beautiful, secure, old-school hotel with exceptional, friendly service. Being an older building, there are fewer wall outlets than you may be used to. Don't expect a USB charing port at the desk. Very comfortable bed gave me a good night's sleep. The HVAC is powerful but takes a moment to figure out which control to manipulate. The beautiful shower has multiple heads and handles, so it also take a little-trial-and error to figure out what turns on what. Breakfast was good and reasonably priced. A continental buffet is there if you are in a rush, and the mushroom and cheese omelet I had was delicious.

Bad Business Practices!!
What a huge disappointment to learn that I was downgraded from a presidential suite to a standard room- room was booked some time back, and I didn't remember the room type upon check in, plus it was the end of a very long trip.. I was made aware of the downgrade when reviewing my nights collected with Hotel.com. Hotels.com called the property . They were bounced from person to person, and hung up on multiple times. Disgraceful!!!!. What kind of sham operation is this! Thankfully, Hotels.com is going to compensate me for the difference in cost. A few other things to mention: Get rid of the instant coffee. Stop being cheap and put in a Nespresso machine like other hotels. The room was over sprayed with room freshener. The smell was so strong I had to leave the window open half the night. Reception agreed that the smell was strong and attempted to move me to another STANDARD ROOM, but it was facing the street. Perhaps, if I had been in the room I reserved, it would not have been an issue. Stay away from this place!

BEST HOTEL IN JOZI!
Have stayed here about 6 times in last 2 years and believe me it’s the best hotel in Joburg. World class amazing service. I will always stay here!!! Let me tell you how much I love this hotel: I was attending a conference and they booked another hotel for me (FOR FREE). I declined and PAID to stay here. It’s THAT GOOD!

Lovely Hotel Near Rosebank Mall
Lovely hotel near the Rosebank Mall. The hotel has an older, formal style and ambience. The beds are comfortable with nice heated bathroom floors. The staff is fabulous. Couldn’t be more helpful and polite. Breakfasts were a choice of continental or menu. Being close to the mall made dinner choices easy. Much to choose from.

Good hotel but very poor WIFI internet
As a global business traveler, I usually focus on a few things when selecting hotels: • Clean and safe room; • Comfortable bed and pillows; • Warm water for showers; • Decent internet (5 MBPS or more). The internet is critical as I often have SKYPE calls for meetings and require my computer to sync shared folders with the rest of my team. During my stay at the Monarch hotel in October 2018, I often had no internet and when I did, it was very poor (100-250 kbps). As a result, I had to rely on my mobile data plan to work and function.

A Grand Hotel
The staff is very friendly and ready to assist you in any way. On the day I checked out, I had several hours free so I wanted to see a couple of things. The front desk arranged a private car to take me to those places and then to the airport. The inside of the hotel looks like a grand mansion and the rooms are very spacious and grand. The only thing I would add is that the outside of the hotel needs to be given a good wash, especially the yellow window drapes.

Our visit to the Monarch Hotel was perfect! Wonderful employees, fantastic food and a very comfortable and spacious room. Located in a very safe location and beside a nice shopping mall and only about 20 minutes to the airport. We throughly enjoyed our night there!

Beautiful hotel, scary location.
Hotel was beautiful inside but needs a total facelift outside. New paint and new awnings. The location is very scary. There were homeless people all around when we would go outside.

The moment we walked up the stairs and into the Monarch Hotel, we were made to feel at home. Staff was perfectly balanced between being professional and friendly, willingly taking care of our needs and requests and never being solicitous. Our suite was spacious and comfortable and very well appointed. In keeping with the historic nature of the building, design and furnishings were very traditional and of excellent quality - as were all of the linens and amenities. The only problem I encountered during our stay was getting kicked off the internet a couple of times and they were quick to respond and fix the problem - although the bandwidth could have been a bit faster. We had dinner in the restaurant or from the restaurant (room service) all three nights that were there and found the food good and tasty if not gourmand. As a special bonus, they had original art throughout the hotel and we very much enjoyed walking around and looking at the in-house art gallery. In addition, there was a large mall just a few steps away where we could stock up on toiletries and other essentials we needed for the next phase of our trip. If we ever get back to Joburg, there is no question that we will definitely stay here again.

Although it doesn't look like much from the outside, the rooms at the Monarch Hotel are huge and luxurious. The staff were amazing and made sure our stay was comfortable.
