Gatorland®

Gatorland® featuring dangerous animals and rides
A world class exhibit dedicated to the most ancient of animal species on the planet. These living dinosaurs are a breathtaking sight, attracting thousands of visitors each year.

This 45-hectare park is a gigantic nature reserve for the native creatures of South Florida. Often referred to as the “Alligator Capital of the World”, Gatorland educates visitors about the fantastic characteristics of alligators. Activities range from holding a baby alligator to learning how to train one of these incredibly huge reptiles. For the more adventurous, delve into the swamp and walk within just a few feet of theses phenomenal creatures in their natural habitat.

Opened to the public in 1949 under the name of Florida Wildlife Institute, this colossal attraction was founded by Owen Godwin who began displaying reptiles at a humble roadside stop-off for visitors in the area. By 1954, interest in the park increased and was duly renamed Gatorland. What began as a small attraction with just a few snakes and alligators is today a worldwide icon, attracting thousands of visitors from around the world.

Home to a number of reptiles, including thousands of alligators, snakes, crocodiles, deer and giant tortoises, the Park also attracts many Birdwatchers. For those with a love of feathered animals, the hundreds of egrets, flamingos, hawks and spoonbills make for a perfect photo opportunity and a unique take away souvenir. The raised wooden platforms dotted around the swamplands allow for a truly exceptionally view of this outstanding nature reserve.

Children are welcome on the reserve and will particularly enjoy meeting and feeding the baby animals at Allie’s Barnyard Petting Zoo. Other activities include a playground for the younger kids and the spectacular Gator Gully Splash Park.

The most popular show on the reserve is the Gator Jumparoo, where visitor can witness these huge alligators launching themselves into the air to get at the raw meat dangling above the lake. Take a few snaps from the sidelines, or for the adrenaline junkies, get strapped into a harness and fly 366 metres across the Alligator Breeding Marsh on the Screamin’ Gator Zip Line.

You’ll need to set aside a whole day to explore the features of the park and make sure that you come early to witness the shows and feeding times for a truly memorable day out.

They have a swamp walk through trees at the back of the park. On our visit we saw three snakes, a racoon just wandering in the swamp and two snapping turtles. I wanted to photograph dragonfly but at this time of year they were not present. The snakes etc. more than made up for it all!

Great day our with nice walks through the swamp, lots of shows and activities for all ages and interests, as well of a water area for kids to play, animal petting area.... too much to cover in this piece. There are also concession prices for anyone over the age of 55 years, which makes great savings too. We've visited for the past 4 trips to Orlando and thoroughly enjoy every time.

Easy free parking. Some nice zoo aspects with various cute creatures in addition to the alligators, plus a boardwalk through the swamp. Nice for 8y old to feed the gators from a fishing line. We did the zip wire course. Very good.
