"What a fabulous historic building!"
The is a beautiful tradional manor house set in a working farm with riding stables. Just to have the opportunity to stay in such a lovely place was an experience. The staff were really friendly and the breakfast was of good quality. A world away from the usual mass produced hotel room.

"Beautiful setting"
Even though I arrived late and in the rain and they were very welcoming, showed me to my room and the facilities and left me to it. Just what I wanted on a wet night. The bed was very comfortable and the linen of a good quality. The hotel is set in a gorgeous setting on the East Dark River. Breakfast is in the conservatory over looking all this with a lovely hot meal served with a spread of cereal, yogurt and fruit. After breakfast I had a lovely walk out past the gardens and along the river.

"Overnight stay"
Welcoming staff from the phone call to confirm our reservation and throughout our brief stay. All the staff happy to do any of the services expected, so none of that demarcation and rigid hierarchy that spoils some hotels, and they seemed genuinely happy despite being busy.

    Pocket Guide: Devon Dartmoor Hotels

A fascinating contrast of wild empty landscapes, manicured beauty spots and picture-postcard villages, Dartmoor is one of southern England's last wildernesses, where ponies, sheep, and cattle graze freely. Most popular for day-trippers is the south east of the moor with wooded valleys and cascading streams. The central and northern parts feature wild open moorland with imposing rock outcrops ('tors'). The whole area is a walker's paradise.
