About Candi Dasa

Candi Dasa is a district along the eastern coastline of Bali. Even though this area of the island is relatively quiet and laid-back, it does experience heavy traffic due to its location. Travellers are recommended to stay in one of the resorts or hotels that rest on the beachfront. The beach is beautiful, but it is very narrow. At high tide, the sand almost disappears under water.

Don’t Miss

Just a few kilometres from the coast is the Bali Aga at Tenganan. This ancient original Balinese village is one of the most famous cultural attractions on the island. The villagers maintain a very strict adherence to worship and culture passed down for many generations. There are only two of these villages in Bali and this one is the most-visited.

Candi Dasa is just 10kms from the beautiful Goa Lawah Temple and bat cave. This is one of Bali’s nine famous directional temples protecting the island from evil spirits. The temple is open for guests from 08:00 to 18:00 daily. In addition to visiting the temple, tourists should also explore the bat cave where thousands of bats lay to roost every day.

Restaurants and Bars

The best places to eat in the area are the cafés and restaurants located along the beachfront. They provide great views across the ocean, giving a very laid-back and romantic vibe. Street side vendors also sell a range of very popular local dishes including satay lilit, a minced-fish satay snack that is cheap and delicious. Many of the cafés along Jalan Candidasa convert themselves into evening bars. However, tourists won’t find an exciting nightlife here. It tends to be very laid-back and relaxing.

Shopping

There is not much shopping in Candi Dasa. The area is famous for its basket weaving, especially in the surrounding villages. The town of Candi Dasa has a good number of shops selling locally-woven baskets. Handicrafts are also popular here.
