My Stay At Bachelor Inn Belize City
My stay was OK.What I like about Bachelor Inn is the price and the amount of space in the unit. Units have refrigerator and cable. Yes, it definitely needs improvement (pad locks to secure your door, finding a salamander in the kitchen, etc). But, it's Belize! And mind you, I've stayed in worse hotels in Utah. Like I've said before, the view of the Caribbean Sea from the roof terrace is spectacular! I've gotten excellent service from hotel staff so overall, I will likely stay at Bachelor Inn again when I go back to Belize.

Maybe the worst hotel on EXPEDIA
Take it off the list on Expedia. That would save credibility. If hotels like those are on Expedia I would never trust Expedia for hotels in countries other than USA

North side of Belize City lodging
I'm not sure where to begin. When I checked in, the "owner" (?) started complaining about Expedia not paying her enough, then asked me to help her make one of the two beds, which included wrapping a sheet around two pillows. She then asked if I wanted to go to lunch with her, to which I declined. The bathroom did not include a shower curtain. There was also no sink, just a drain on a counter top. I had no hot water for the first three days. I asked for a new light bulb for the bathroom and never got one. I asked for a wash cloth and never got one. I never got a change of towels. The bed was changed once the entire week. The place is a dump. I would not include it as an option via Expedia. I didn't take photos but did record a video via Marco Polo.

Cheap and safe
A cheap place in Belize City, enough said. It's in a safe area though with schools around. A little store down the street. There was a fridge, microwave, air conditioning and a friendly girl that cleaned the room and who helped me with my phone.

Inconvenient location
The bachelor inn is nothing special. The rooms are big and clean but the local area offers nothing in terms of tourism and very little in terms of food. There's a "hole in the wall" restaurant a street over that offers budget friendly fried chicken and a grocery store up the road. The hotel is located far away from the city centre (cabs are $5 US and busses pass by regularity) so I would pay a little more next time to be closer to everything. It's ok for a one night stay/layover and the staff are friendly in helping you around the neighbourhood. If you do end up staying, make sure you go to the park at the end of the streeet to spot some dolphin playing in the water.

Residential area budget hotel
The place is pretty far from everything - needed to cab or take the bus (which is 2 steps away on the corner and only costs $1BZ). If you're looking for a budget hotel, this is definitely it - although you might end up paying more money for cabs since it's in a residential area, with nothing really around. Knowing how far it was from everything, I probably would've paid a bit more to be closer to everything.

Fine for a couple of days
We found the Bachelor Hotel to be fine for our needs. The beds were comfortable and the bedroom had air conditioning (though the sitting room could only feel the air conditioning through slats in the windows between the two). We were surprised to find a refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker in the room, as I didn't see those offered. The location isn't that great, as even though you aren't far from the water, it isn't easy to access. We had to walk over 1.5 miles to get to a nice restaurants/bar on the water through not the greatest neighborhoods. Otherwise, we had everything we needed for under $50.

OK hotel but shocking location
Very pleasant and helpful owner, large rooms that are clean, sensible price and that is where we stop, maybe I don't travel much but I am used to putting my toilet paper in the toilet not a bin next to the toilet, location simply there is nothing, 1 Chinese take away and if you want anything else catch a taxi, but you will have to phone for one, did not see any in area, and the view - a building being demolished

Not bad
For the price, not bad. Not for older people, lot of climbing. Spacious, but the pillows, sheets below standard. At the end of the day,I categorize as "third world".In a nice part of city, 3mins ride to super market.another 5mins to downtown. Security was a major concern for me. My room door, was lock with a pad lock.A small one, to make matters worse. Guess you get what you pay for.

Nice place to spend a few days
I have been to Belize before and just passed the City by on my way to the islands. This trip I wanted to see some of the interior. I was looking for an inexpensive hotel for 3 days and Bachelor Inn fit the bill. When I arrived, I was a bit unnerved by the neighborhood and the remoteness of the hotel. It is in Belize suburbia and not close to any thing. I warmed to the management who was always willing to help and upgraded me to a two bedroom with full kitchen and living room at no charge. By the second day I was jogging into town along the water front and ordering food from the local joints. I never once felt threatened, even at night. Cab to the ferry terminal was $5 and the bus comes by every 20 minutes for fifty cents to town. Bottom line... If the locals scare you stay in the tourist district. If not, it's a cheap, comfortable place to stay.

We only stayed here our last night in Belize so we could be close to the airport. Hotel is located in sort of a crappy section of Belize City, in the middle of a pretty loud neighborhood. Hotel owner was very nice and showed us to our room and told us to go and see the roof (great view!). This is pretty much the end of what is good about the hotel. When we got to the room the door was PADLOCKED (as were all of the other rooms in the hotel) and it looked like a low rent apartment. The beds were made up with sheets you'd find at your own house with no blankets only a top sheet. When we first arrived at the hotel the beds were missing 1 pillow each. A random hotel worker was sent with replacements (along with toilet paper and 3 bottles of electric green soap). The shower had the flimsiest curtain I've ever seen and no water pressure, I literally bathed under a trickle of warm water. The "kitchenette" was a gas hotplate complete with a propane tank in the room. Everything was very run down. The definite icing on the cake was the Mormon missionaries who knocked on our door the morning we left. For a one night stay the hotel was decent enough, I guess, but I was glad when we left. I would not return here.

"Yes, I DO have a reservation."
Talk about hostility! After a day of traveling, I could not remember offhand whether I had gotten my reservation via expedia--and I was treated like a VILLAIN for this. "You forget website, I forget reservation" was the response. When we asked for the wireless password so I could check my e-mail to confirm, we were ignored. Eventually she navigated her way through her email to find my reservation, then gave us a room with more beds than we needed. Yuck. The decent amenities, I could deal with, but to be treated like a criminal? When I had already paid for my reservation? This was unacceptable.

I would not return as this hotel was not within walking distance to eateries or other needs. I was surprised by the fact that the door was padlocked from the outside when not in use and grateful for the 3 deadbolts from the inside. Once inside felt safe, but so much outside of room.

Greeting from the Bachelor Inn guest house. It is unpleasant to hear of your stay. Here we use padlocks as a work system for our house keepers as there are many rooms and padlocks cause less confusion. However we have 24 hour security system. We cannot change the environment we are located in. Sincere Apologies!

Nice hotel for people on a tight budget
Our stay at the Bachelor Inn was overall good for the price we paid. I knew it wasn't going to be fancy, but I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the room. A sitting area, sleeping area, bathroom, and kitchen area ( no stove ). The view was nice but could have been better. The hotel does have a roof you can walk on or even lounge on. It has a good view of the Caribbean Sea as well as the city. Some negative things about the hotel were the street it was on. Very local, but poverty is present and makes it look dirty. The fridge did not smell very pleasant and a shower curtain was missing. The room had a fully functioning air conditioning unit and TV as well. Unfortunately there were no luxuries such as a pool or even meals to eat.
Response from Nancy on 3 May 2014
Greetings from the Bachelor Inn hotel. Thank you for your comments. We cannot do anything about our environment we are located at. However our prices are 1/4 of that of any hotel located. Thank you and sincere apologies to you if any discomfort.

The Clerk was clueless.
The clerk was clueless and couldn't even find our reservation. She had sweat running down her entire body. She promised our room had air and it did. It took a while to cool it down though. The other guests at the hotel gave us more info than the clerk did. There were no brochures like you normally find at hotels as to the activities or taxi and bus services. The outside of the door was locked with a padilock. On the inside there were at least 7 different forms of locks which only 2 work. There is a small store nearby that has nothing in it. No place to eat in the area. The room was clean but would still suggest staying in a different location. If the guests hadn't given us some pointers about the bus service it could have been a nightmare.

I enjoyed the stay. My room was more like a small apartment (separate kitchen and bedroom. The rooms were neat and clean. The service was good and the manager was attentive. One thing I really enjoyed was relaxing on the roof of the hotel, enjoying the cool breeze off the Carribean Sea! For the price, I felt I got my money's worth and would stay here again.
