Great room with wonderful amenities
The hotel is located in a decent location, close to couple of restaurants among other things. The hotel is slightly old but is decently well maintained. The room was great, the toiletries provided were very thoughtful and good. Only issue we had was that it was a duplex room. So - either carry the luggage upstairs - which is painful if you have lot of luggage; or run up & down to get your stuff. The front desk staff didn't speak English and was a bit painful because of that -. but our guides saved our days. I would gladly give 5 stars if not for the couple of inconveniences.

Lovely stay at a temple hotel
The staff of the hotel are polite and efficient, the rooms are spacious and comfortable. There is a real peaceful ambiance at the hotel. Unfortunately no gym and wireless internet is not the best, but cable internet is fast. English is a challenge for hotel staff, however they do their best to help with any queries/requests. The area is far from downtown (half an hour) and surrounding neighbourhood is not really special.

Fantastic Experience.
A true 4 star and enjoyable hotel. Spend four nights there to meet family members and friends. Quiet, but convenient location, close to everything. Many great restaurants in short walking distance. 24 hour hotel services. Very neat! Very friendly staffs. Will surely come back again. Highly recommend!

This hotel may have been a four star... but several years ago!! Now, the room are not very clean, the bed is horrible, the personnel service is soso and it's location is not convenience! It's far away from the metro and from all attraction and due to its far location it's the last one to be served by the travel agency for city or great wall trip!

Nice quiet hotel.
Checking in was a little rough as there were several big groups from India ahead of me... Everyone seemed a little frazzled. The clerk who checked me in did not speak much English but enough to get through the process with no issues. She was a little surprised at the rate that I got, she said "How you get such a good price?" And had to go consult with someone else to make sure it was legit (I am guessing). The room was quite nice and the visible areas were clean, however in the corners and some semi hidden areas there was sign of housekeeping neglect. This is pretty typical of any business in Beijing it seems. It was also very quiet and very pleasant. Checkout was much easier as the clerk spoke perfect English. Some things to note, even though it says that there is no wireless Internet in the rooms, there was. There was an access point right next to the tv. Also, there was a minibar that had 2 bottles of water, 1 can of coke and 1 can of sprite... There was no indication that these were free or not but it turned out it is free and replenished everyday.

Lovely Hotel
The hotel is lovely and is built on the grounds of an old temple, which has a lot of history. The staff are really nice, friendly and helpful. There is a bit of a language barrier as many of the staff don't speak very good English, but they do try and are all lovely. The room was very clean and we had a good view overlooking the courtyard and old buildings. Also the free mini bar is filled every time you have your room cleaned...2 bottles of water and a can of coke & a can of sprite. Taxi drivers do find it a little bit difficult to find, but there are always taxi's passing by the hotel on the main road. The hotel is a 20 minute walk to the Beijing Railway Station / underground and a 20 minute walk from the Temple of Heaven / The Pearl Market. Nice restaurants very close to the hotel as well as a convenience store and an ATM close by. If we decide to go back to Beijing we would definitely stay at the XiZhao Temple Hotel again.

great hotel that looks like a temple
The hotel seems like it IS the temple. Walking into it is beautiful and the lobby is downstairs. Walking into the room it is very simple and nice, good upkeep. My room smelled of smoke though and the bed was very firm. The shower water would hit the ledge of the tub and then filter to the drain on the floor so be careful getting out of the shower. The breakfast was very good and the staff was very helpful trying to get us a tour or a cab. Some staff's english was limited but there was always someone there that could speak some english. I would stay there again as I am not a very picky traveler.

Adequate but no more than that
Arriving late at night the taxi driver leaves you at a non-descript entrance and the only staff available at the door didn't realise that the 2 large suitcases and 2 pieces of hand-baggage were a little difficult to drag across the cobbled courtyard on your own. At least he held the door open, then went back to fiddling on his phone. Checking in was OK and the room was a decent size but smelled musty. Outside temperature was cold, but so was the internal temperature and the only heating is a warm air convector. Wifi in the room was free but useless for anything but basic email so forget Skype or web-browsing, and the service is intermittent at best. Location is a brisk 20 minute walk from the nearest Metro station though taxis are cheap and the place is well-signposted. Breakfast is poor: chinese selection is as you would expect but get there after 09:30am and there is nothing left, no coffee, just scraps of food and bits of fruit. The same slices of cold meats were brought out and left untouched on each of the 3 mornings I was there. For the central location you shouldn't complain about the price, but you don't get any luxury or amenity in this place, and a business person would require more than what this has to offer.

A good hotel though a bit away from subway
The hotel is built on the premises of a previous temple which makes a nice surround. Rooms are spacious and clean, and the staff is helpful and friendly. The one disadvantage with the staff is their lack of English which even though is better than with most people in Beijing, it still below standards in western hotels. Generally speaking, the hotel provided exactly what was expected. A nice, clean hotel in a quiet part of Beijing. The main disadvantage is that the closest subway station is a good 30 mins walk away. Even though taxis are really cheap in Beijing and the hotel staff is always ready to get you one, with all the traffic jams the subway is always the most preferrable way to get around

Don't
I am rating this hotel as just OK. We were with a tour group and stayed here for 4 nights. We came in on our own a day before. The first room we were given was one in which a heavy smoker used and they had no other room available. They offered to clean the room of smoke, using a spray deodorizer which of course didn't work. This first room also had a non functioning AC system so the room never cooled down. The next day we were moved to another much larger and nicer room. But this AC also did not work. The fan blower would not work. The room was 27C when we moved in by the time we moved to a third room the temperature was 32C. The third room was okay the blower for the AC worked and kept the room at 24-25C. The rooms themselves were large and comfortable except for the AC. Others in the tour group pretty much had the same issue with the AC. AC in all China is pretty much a non working dial or digital unit. I was there in Oct, summer would be HOT, HOT, HOT. The AC system needs maintenance or upgrade to work. The breakfast was okay but overpriced. I pretty much stuck with eggs, toast, coffee and OJ. The rest was not so good.

Fabulous Hotel. Poor location.
Really excellent hotel. Room was so well planned and little things provided like a small emery board for those snagged nails when your moving luggage. A nice thoughtfull touch. Comfortable beds, although harder than home, but normal in China. The staff were helpful and reception staff spoke reasonable English. Domestic staff did not, but we were able to communicate and they were eager to please. Couldn't really fault the hotel. The location was not good. It was a long way from the nearest subway station, about 20-30 minutes walk and need map. Taxi's were difficult to get at any, but the quietest times. They seemed reluctant to stop for westerner's. Nice pleasant restaurant across the road from hotel, don't know name, but has 4 large chinese characters above it. They don't speak English, but know what westerners like. Take phrase book, be patient and enjoy lovely food.

Food at hotel restaurant is average(-), but don't expect five star hotel service ( cleaning tale, setting table..etc) Room is clean and well maintaind, but dfficult to make communication with staffs for service...smile!! Location is not far from interesting sites, but hidden from main roads while sitting at residential area. Tax drivers need map to find it. No gym/fittness facility,

Great hotel for comfort in Beijing
The only minor issue we had was that at any given time we could only find a single person who could speak moderate english. Honestly, the hotel was a spectacular choice, and spoke the best english out of any place we stayed at in China. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it for high comfort in a chinese themed hotel. The location was great, but at times it seemed that no taxi driver knew where the hotel was. Truly enjoyable stay!!!

Very nice, peaceful hotel with beautiful pieces of art as it should be given it's located in the previous temple. Close to the incredible Temple of Heaven. It would be still better had the breakfast was included in the price. One negative comment: a cup of tea in the meeting room costs $15. Also the staff needs, must learn more English.

Hotel is nice and clean. Rooms are in a good size, tidy and comfortable. There were two problems that bodered me. First was a poor comminication in english with hotel staff even with people working at front desk. Second problem was a lack of wireless in a room so to use my phone I had to walk down to the lobby.

I had several issues on this hotel from the first day. The building is beautiful but you will need to take taxis constantly, they are not expensive (between one and 3 euros) but there are not enough taxis to make it a confortable option, get ready to wait for long periods ... in addition, many taxi drivers will not take you there (I later suspected that the hotel card Chinese writting was too small for some drivers who probably need glasses) furthermore, there is not such a thing in China as taxi booking, where you can just call an agency and get your taxi within minutes, you are alwasy chasing them and feeling grateful that they picked you up... The staff is nice and helpful but not all speak English. The restaurant food is great. It is a pitty that the courtyard is not used more, like for example, be an extension of the restaurant or provide free tai chi/calligraphy classes for the guests.... Overall ok, but I do not plan to come back. A hotel close to a subway will be my first priority.

XiZhao Temple Hotel Great value for the money.
I stay at the XiZhao Temple hotel whenever I am traveling in Beijing. It is located in a traditional Chinese neighborhood, and has many good restaurants within walking distance. The hotel offers a nice breakfast buffet, but you can save a lot money if your willing to eat the local food. All of the food in the neighborhood is good, and priced from cheap to reasonable. You can eat dumplings and porridge as breakfast for 2 for around USD$2.00. Lunch or dinner for 2 will cost you between USD$20-$30 at most of the local eateries up and down the street. There is a local laundry within 100 yards of the hotel that takes one day to wash your clothes. The owners are nice and the prices are fair, so give the local guy some business while in town. The neighborhood is safe. Feel free to walk around an explore the local restaurants and stores. FYI - Most restaurants in China have pictures and prices on their menus, so don't be afraid to try eating something new. This hotel is located near Tiananmen Square, The Forbidden City, Summer Palace, Yonghe Gong Buddhist Temple, Confucian Temple, Heaven Temple. Spend the extra money and book the Superior Room it is worth the money. Another FYI - NO BODY TIPS IN CHINA EVER, so don't feel you have to start an new trend!!!! Enjoy your stay.

Noy good for business
This hotel comes recommended, but I have to say it was a disappointment. Of the three hotels I stayed at on my recent trip to China, this was by far worst. English is an issue at many hotels in China, but here they hardly understands English at all. That is a big issue if you are on a business trip and needs help. The staff promised to call for a taxi, but when I come down 20 minutes later, it turned out they had not called one. They just went out on the street to try to stop one. It took 30 minutes to get a car this busy morning. "Quite normal", they explained. But then, why did they not tell me that in the first place? I was late for a meetig thanks to that ordeal. The location is not great, but no hotel in Beijing is close to everything. Skip breakfast if its not included in the price. Its not very good but quite expensive. On the plus side, the quarters around the hotel are quite interesting to see, so if you are a tourist on a budget this place is OK.

The location is a bit far from decent restaurants, shops, attractions and the airport. You need to take a taxi to every where you want to go. The layout of the hotel is also a bit awkward. Professional Place
Stayed there for 5 nights and it was very comfortable. The service was very friendly and helpful, they even allowed me to use their phone to call England for an emergency with no extra charge. Fridays and Sundays they have a chinese sitar player playing in the lobby - very nice and relaxing. The rooms are big, clean, a few english channels on TV and cable internet. The lobby has free Wifi which at times is even fast enough for Skype video chats. Only downside: it's a bit off, you gotta catch a taxi to get to the nearest station, but thats only 10 RMB per ride, bearable. Recommended!

Value for money. If you are on a budget trip with family than I will definitely recommend it. For single there are lots of other options in beijing. It is noise free location near the center of city, which I prefer. English Language skills were OK, few of there staff can speak well so one can communicate with them. The thing I did not like was that there room cleaning service. Although the room was pretty clean and odor free. Housekeeping did not clean the carpet after first day, after we requested them, than they on last day the clean up the carpet. On the whole it was HYGIENIC. Internet facility was not great speed was pretty slow. Suggest you to carry your own laptop for using hotel internet because they do not provide the hardware.

can't wait to go back
We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights, because it's close to the Temple of Heaven, before we headed to Tianjin. We're so pleased that we stayed for another week before we returned to LA. It's interior decoration is no inferior to any high priced hotels but at a friction of the charge! Extremely friendly and efficient service. Morning buffet is a little pricy,I think. The hotel restaurant does provide good tasty Chinese food at a reasonable price. It's about 25 mins. walk to the oldest Catholic church in the city. It's not too far from the centre of the city, nor the nearest tube station. Overall, it's quite convenient, travelling wise.

Great Vegetarian Restaurant
Transferred here fr the Wangfujing area w my husband and two children to experience some local life and relax after a hectic 3 days of sightseeing. It was a nice change. Our stay was pleasant highlighted by the vegetarian restaurant set in a temple like structure amid a quiet courtyard which served good food we ate there twice. The rooms were big and the beds were comfortable. The carpet though seemed a bit in need of better cleaning. Only challenge was that English speaking staff were rare to find leading to a couple of miscommunication issues with payments and menus. The breakfast buffet was a modified ala carte of sorts though we gave up after more than 5minutes of confused replies from the staff, good thing there was a shandong restaurant nearby which served good dumplings and an assortment of steamed buns.

I gave this place high marks because the customer service was excellent, the assistant manager (her name was cherry) was most gracious to assist me at every turn! I do not speak Chinese at all, but assisted me in touring and many other needs. The hotel was very stylish and accomadating. For the cost was over the top. I am from america. A lot of people complain the beds are too hard in china they are but I got used to it. Its just one of those things that when in china do what the Chinese do. Its not a complaint I embraced it. And it was fine. I didn't catch the managers name but also a very kind gentleman that also assisted me with some personal issues that came up during my stay very accomadating as well.

The hotel operates the Aircon only between 11 am to 11 pm to conserve electricity and hence the nights are very hot. Almost all staff cannot understand and talk English. The Internet is very very slow - definitely not a broadband. The hotel is pretty out of the main tourist areas - and most taxis refuse to take us to that location. The Spa was not in service. The breakfast is not complimentary and very expensive including children below 12 yrs old. A few staff like Mr.Bin - the Director, White and Cherry the Asst Managers are a real gift to both the hotel and the guests if they are on duty. Personally, I will avoid this place and not recommend this hotel to anyone.

This is a nice hotel conveniently located in Beijing. It is close to the Forbidden City, a major shopping mall area, and the Beijing Silk / Pearl market. This is my third stay at this hotel, and I have been satisfied with the facilities and staff each visit. There are nice traditional Chinese restaurants across the street from the hotel in a safe neighborhood. If you want to stay in the heart of the tourist area this may not be the place for you, but if you are looking for an economical hotel that is clean and close the the major local attractions in Beijing this is the place to stay.

Good hotel with a real Chinese atmosphere
Our experience at this hotel was very enjoyable. The place is beautifully decorated in a modern Chinese fashion, and our room was large and comfortable (but it had a slight cigarrete smell which bothered us a little). Most of the guests there are Chinese, which gives the place a very local atmosphere, in my opinion much better than staying at a westernized place. The down side is that the staff had very poor English skills. However, if you are going to China you should prepare yourself for that anyway...

This hotel is a jewel in the rough. The hotel is located in a residential area with small shops around. The nearest metro is about a 20 minute walk, next to the Pearl Market and the Temple of Heaven. However, for the price paid it was worth the walk. We were able to get a rate of $52.00 per night for a King. The rooms were large, very clean and newer. Each room was provided TV internet (and free wifi), as well as a new and modern bathroom. After travelling for 6 weeks this hotel was so wonderful surprise! There is a Spa at this hotel but there is no information anywhere about what services are offered, there are a few restaurants but they were difficult to locate. I would definately recommend this hotel for the price and location but would warn that you come with a dictionary and a lot of patience as no one speaks any English.
