It wasn’t a great stay. We didn’t have hot water the first day, and the ventilation system seemed out of service for the 3 days. We stayed end of March, and room temperature climbed to 27C every night. We kept windows open during the day to cool the room, but it wasn’t possible at night due to the traffic. At these heatwave level temperatures, it was difficult to get babies to sleep. Even though the staff knew about issues, they didn’t offer options or to relocate. Otherwise, the property is clean.

No working air conditioning
We stayed here just for one night as a stopover and found it extremely uncomfortable. It was 22C degrees outside and when we arrived into the room it was like walking into a sauna. There was no air conditioning that worked. The windows opened fully so allow air in but it was very noisy outside with traffic so wasn’t ideal keeping these open all night long. Upon checking out there was no member of staff on reception and the auto check out machine wasn’t working so we had to just abandon our key on the reception desk and hope it would be ok. Not a great stay.

The only good thing I have to say about this place is that it is near the Basel train station. Otherwise, avoid at all costs. There is no ramp or step-free access to the property so if you have a wheelchair or a pram, you're stuffed. Secondly, it was quite hot in the room. I complained twice and they said they couldn't do anything about it. They suggested I open the windows and it was bang in the middle of a transport hub so imagine doing that? Thirdly, they only provided one very uncomfortable pillow. When I asked for more, they told me to go across in the middle of the night to another hotel nearby to get one. Try and find an alternative accommodation if you can.

The room was decidedly small, just a bit larger than the double bed. Did not appreciate having to carry 2 large pieces of luggage up 1.5 flights of stairs to get to check in. No one was at the desk when we got there and the tablet device did not recognize the Expedia confirmation number. The upside is that it is literally around the corner from the Basel SBB and is clean and quiet.

Unfortunately due to understaffing our room was not ready as promised 2pm which we waited hours for then returned and still had to wait in barely AC'd lobby. Room had minimal necessities but was not completely clean with trash on floor and fridge that was hardly cold but great location.

Terrible experience. No air conditioning in the rooms and we had our infant daughter with us, which made the temperature in the room tough We were told there was no solution but that we could ask the bartender at Hotel Euler for ice (Hotel Metropol shares a bar and breakfast area with Hotel Euler and one other hotel). We rolled with it, didn’t complain, and went about getting one glass of ice to make ice water each night to cool down. That is, until the night of June 18th, 2023. We came in at night to go to our room and asked the bartender for a glass of ice. Dmitri the bartender refused to give us ice. I’m actually serious, he refused to give us one pint glass full of ice for the three of us to share. I wish I could make this up, still can’t believe it actually happened. The manager on staff at the front desk for Hotel Euler was no help either, barely looked up from his computer screen and told us to ask the front desk at Hotel Metropol if we have an issue. Laila at the front desk at Hotel Metropol was very nice and came down and got us ice Honestly, Dmitri the bartender and the Hotel Euler front desk manager on duty the night of June 18th, 2023, have no business being anywhere near the hospitality industry. Hotel Metropol is a 2-3 star hotel at best, with no AC, go elsewhere

Perfectly located exactly 2 min away from Basel SBB and less then a min walk to trams which pretty much take you anywhere. Nice and helpful staff Only a few draw backs: -There is a series of stairs to get to main/reception floor from street level, so if you have mobility issues, wheel chair or heavy luggage it’s not ideal, although gentleman at front desk was kind enough to bring up my luggage from street level to reception area. Elevator starts from reception level which is not street level. -No air conditioning and it gets really stuffy and no air flow (Roman was kind enough to arrange a fan but it is not AC which was mentioned in Expedia -Sound proofing is not that great either if it affects your work or sleep.

the lobby is lovely, the staff so warm & welcoming (at least, the 1 who greeted us, not everybody). the room is tight, & to get there is a long hallway connecting to the simplier hotel. no bin for recycling.

Nice stay in Basel
We enjoyed our stay. The room was large and clean, with nice perks like power outlets on both sides of the bed (never a given!) and a timed heater in the bathroom. The location was amazingly convenient being near the main train station, which is also where the bus from the airport stops. We'd recommend!

Very nice, helpful staff, the complimentary public transportation passes were very useful and convenient especially with the tram, bus stop and rail station right in front of the hotel. Wished they had a microwave in room, coffee was a very difficult to get item, house keeping didn’t refill, receptionist couldn’t even find it anywhere 😢

This property is very convenient for traveling to/from the train station. Easy to catch other transportation nearby this location as well. You get a Basel card that works for all the busses/trams in the city, but additional discounts with museums and more. There are 2 hotels with one lobby. A little confusing at first but you get used to it. Pls note- no self serving laundry services on property as stated on website. you can have laundry service done for you at very high rates ($$$$). Bathroom was clean - very quiet bedroom even facing the street as they have double windows. Very comfortable bed.

We booked the Metropole but were put into another!
We booked a room in the Metropole but upon arrival we were out in the adjacent city inn. They apparently own 3 adjacent hotels but have a shared reception. The room was similar to a very old travel lodge room ie very basic. Location wise it was ok and front desk service was good (Bernard?) but it was definitely not the hotel we were expecting.

Convenient location superb for transport & visiting any interest including the Zoo. I extended my stay. The customer support was excellent and made a difference. Not pretentious; lovely to hear the piano every evening. I will book this hotel again on my next visit.
